Website for William Grant Still "Dedicated to preserving and promoting the achievements of African-American composer and conductor, William Grant Still (1895-1978)

Archeophone publishes historical recordings and books on music from the past. One of their albums of African American music features recordings dating back to the 1800's, including such artists as Roland Hayes singing "Vesti la Guibba" from Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci, Nathaniel Dett performing one of his piano works, and Clarence Cameron White playing a violin work. The recording received a Grammy and is a valuable documentary on the African American music of the time.

The Amistad Research Center was contacted by Frank Townsell some years ago while he was researching the music of African American composer Howard Swanson.

The Center for Black Music Research, a repository for African American music, has worldwide recognition.

Townsell was interviewed by David Reffkin on the "Ragtime Machine" program broadcast from KUSF-FM in San Francisco.

Mike Wright, chair of the International Society - African to American Music , has been quite helpful in promoting Townsell's work, inviting Townsell to perform at the University of London in 1999 and recording the concert.
