I entered the University of Missouri at Kansas City, at the same time continuing my studies with Richard Canterbury. I obtained a B.A. in foreign languages and literature as well as my degree in music - a combination that worked well later when I traveled to Paris to study, as the coach there spoke no English!

The Kansas City Philharmonic took me on as regular pianist and I became enthralled with the concert piano repertoire and the importance of the piano as an orchestral instrument. Such challenging works as Stravinsky's Petrouchka were a great introduction to this aspect of piano performance. All the while my reputation as a professional musician was growing. During the time of my studies in Kansas City I received an award from the Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity.

After my successful musical achievements in Kansas City, and upon graduation from college, I was offered a music scholarship to the University of Missouri at Warrensburg. I decided, however, to accept an invitation from Dr. Dale Reubart (a student of Richard Canterbury) to attend the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Dr. Reubart was an encouraging and inspirational piano teacher. The atmosphere of togetherness at UBC was very apparent in the cosmopolitan atmosphere; I was invited to dinners and shared in the customs and cultures of the peoples of that city. I quickly made many friends while pursuing my studies. One of those I met - Eve Macdonald - became my student and, eventually, my patroness, providing financial support while I was studying in Paris. She was a good friend and I will always remember the help she was to me.
